Beauty | Maybelline Canada presents fall 2012 global trends and their new product offerings

Two weeks ago I entered the world of Maybelline New York Canada for a Fall 2012 Global Beauty Trends presentation and the big reveal of their new, soon-to-be-released product offerings.

The trends presentation was hosted by MNY shade and trend expert Liz Chon and MNY Canada lead makeup artist Grace Lee (I interviewed her here for a story on lipstick shades for all skin tones) and covered the four big trend themes from Toronto, New York, Berlin and Tokyo runways – the Golden Eye, Striking Strokes, Dark Angel and Barely There.

Each beauty trend was presented on a model decked out in Canadian fashion and labels Sid Neigum, Pink Tartan, Chloe Comme Paris and Caitlin Power were represented. For the Striking Strokes the focus is on the eye, more specifically the eye liner. Classic retro eye liner with winged ends share the stage with single strokes and graphic, artistic liner beyond the normal eye area.

Dark Angel taps into the vampire obsession that has been prevailing lately. Lips are very dark (think deep reds and burgundies) and fresh, sheer eyes.

The Barely There look is the no-makeup makeup look and pays homage to the sheer fabric that has been all over the runways and the street style blogs. Nude rose lips dominate this beauty trend and are the antithesis to the corpse-like look of seasons ago.

The Golden Eye is a smoky eye done with gold eyeshadow rather than black or navy and represents the constant evolution of the smoky eye. Nudes, brown washes and metallics play a big part in this beauty look.

We were also introduced to Maybelline’s Fall 2012 collection which included Eye Studio Duo Eyeshadow, Luminous Lights Quads, Colour Sensational Lipstick in Plums, Colour Sensational High Shine Gloss and the much-anticipated Dream Fresh BB Cream and Colour Show Nail Polish.

So far I’ve tried out the Dream Fresh BB Cream, Colour Sensational Lipstick in Mauve Mania and, of course, the Colour Show Nail polishes in Fierce N Tangy, Fuchsia Fever, Shocking Seas, Pink Shock and Porcelain Party and I must say I’m very impressed (product reviews coming soon!).
