Event | Beachwear label Cascata Blu presents “Africa Comes Alive”

While I enjoy going to fashion, beauty and lifestyle events and previewing upcoming collections it’s always nice to step back, gain perspective and give back. That’s what I did last week when I attended the Cascata Blu “Africa Comes Alive” event at Maro Supper Club.

The event, which was hosted by Cascata Blu director of operations Joan Kelley and her husband and Magna CEO Don Walker, was held to raise funds and awareness for the World Vision Canada development project A Hi Kulene in Mozambique. The fundraising event featured African drumming from BCL (who kept the venue bumping), musical group Krystaal (in stylish African print dresses), and a silent and live auction of African-inspired jewellery designed and donated by Canadian designers C’est Joli, Colette Harmon, J. Rox, Jewellery by Karen, Monikque Jewellery, Melissa Clemente Designs, Rita Tesolin, Sylvia Brade, and Tracy Borlase.

While we all gathered to raise awareness and funds for a great cause there was also a fun, frivolous fashion component to the evening as Cascata Blu presented their Spring/Summer 2012 collection. Designed by Cheryl Gushue, the collection featured brightly hued swimsuits with intricately creative cutouts, a sheer beachside cover-up and colourful patterned tunics all highlighted with wax block printed head wraps and elaborate beaded jewellery.

Over 600 bold-faced names including Belinda Stronach, Glenn Dixon and Anne-Marie Mediwake attended the event and helped to raise over $300,000 for charity.

If you would like to donate to this worthwhile cause please contact Patrick Diltz at World Vision Canada at 866-825-1697.
