At first glance the Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2011 couture collection looks like a frenetic, schizophrenic potpourri of looks, styles and themes.
However, a second viewing shows a career that includes skillfully re-imagined classics.
While “punk couture” has been thrown around there are also references to burlesque (Dita Von Teese?), bondage, Le Smoking and haute lingerie.
JPG sailor stripes were given a modern makeover in strips of organza and tulle pompoms while trademark corseting was added to a pantsuit-gown hybrid.

Even the classic trench could not escape Gaultier-ization. It was given the slash and burn treatment and emerged as a peach one-shoulder dress.
Say what you want about Jean Paul Gaultier but the man knows how to have fun with fashion and this collection was just that.
