Buying makeup has just gotten a little easier for women of colour thanks Mickey Contractor, celebrated Bollywood makeup artist and M.A.C director of makeup artistry for India. Contractor has teamed up with the leading makeup company to create M.A.C + Mickey Contractor, a limited edition Bollywood-inspired makeup collection suited for women of colour.

While the collection includes eyeshadow, lipstick, foundation, concealer, blush and makeup brushes that would be right at home on the vanity tables of aspiring Bollywood screen sirens there are also neutral colours for the less adventurous types, all suited for skin with yellow undertones.

The makeup collection will be available online and in M.A.C stores until February 3 with prices ranging from $17.50 to $43.

Note the irony: All of these ‘South Asian” women have similar complexions that
do not fully represent the true variation of skin complexions and tones from the
sub-continent. Where are the darker complexions? ‘Nuff said.

Joanne, that was the first thing I noticed when I saw the collection and the accompanying images. European ideals of beauty are present throughout almost every culture and race on this planet and with them comes a self-hate/hate for darker complexions. While a more diverse view of beauty is definitely long overdue I thought it would be nice/informative to celebrate “victories” like these, no matter how small.
