Facing the Lens, Seeing the Light at the ROM

I recently went to the Art Gallery of Ontario to view the “Edward Steichen: In High Fashion, the Condé Nast Years, 1923 –1937” exhibit which is a companion exhibit with the Royal Ontario Museum’s “Vanity Fair Portraits: Photographs 1913-2008” exhibit (both are running until Jan. 3) which features the work of such fashion photography heavyweights as Mario Testino, Annie Leibovitz and Edward Steichen.

Well the fine people at the ROM will be hosting a panel discussion called “Facing the Lens, Seeing the Light”.

Inspired by the Vanity Fair Portraits, this illustrated panel discussion will explore the photographic portrait, its significance through the history of photography, and its enduring fascination.

Panelists include photography historian Lilly Koltun, photographer Nigel Dickson, and gallery owner Jane Corkin. Moderated by Francisco Alvarez, ICC Managing Director, and Sophie Hackett, AGO Assistant Curator of Photography.
