Nothing like the smell of Chanel No. 5 in the air and Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel couture designs sauntering down the runway (or, at least how I view the Chanel couture show).
The Fall 2009 Couture collection was classic Karl and classic coco complete with bouclé Chanel suits a black suit with ruffled white shirt that appeared as if it had been pulled from Karl’s own closet (the fingerless gloves were lace though).
There was a healthy dose of bouclé as well as lace, ombre, the 80s, Dallas, sheer sections and what I’ll dub the mullet dress – business in the back and a party in the front.
There were also a few cheeky “bude”, bare-breasted dresses (you’ll understand the description when you see it for yourself).
My favourites were a studded jacket with strand arms (once again you’ll understand when you see it) and some black leather finger gloves.
An amazing collection that was very Coco/Karl just like the Dior collection was very Dior/Galliano. Amazing how these designers can embody and reproduce the style aesthetic of their fashion houses while presenting clothse that are a gorgeously natural evolution of the brand.
Enjoy Chanel Fall 2009 Couture!
