I went to the St. Lawrence Market today to buy some groceries and hopefully score some vintage pieces (clothes, jewelry, bags, you name it) when I saw a gorgeous gold snake necklace (pictures to come).

I started speaking to the woman vendor, who said her name was Judy Welch, and she mentioned her past involvement in the Canadian fashion industry though she highlighted her present incarnation as a jewelry designer.  I took some picture of her and her pieces, exchanged contact information with her and she then handed me a pamphlet.  When I got home and read the pamphlet, which was in fact her brief biography, I realized that she was and is a fixture on the Canadian fashion scene.

Judy was a successfu model, actess, dancer, modeling agency owner, dance school owner, a Rockette, a Miss World participant (representing Canada), modeling school owner, and now, jewelry designer.  Whew!

Another shocker is that she is 73 years old though she definitely doesn’t look it!

Judy is currently writing her biography and working on her website ( so look out for this living legend.

And while her fashion resumé is quite long let’s not forget that she is also a talented jewelry designer.  If you’re looking for a unique statement necklace or earrings then Judy is your gal.  She can be found at The St. Lawrence Market’s South Building Concourse every Saturday in the Spring between 10am to 5pm.
