I know a women who refuses to pay full price for anything whether it be clothes, shoes, toys for her children or electronics. She only shops at sales, buys only discounted items and uses her friends employee discounts from stores like Banana Republic, the Gap and Aritzia whenever she can.
And who doesn’t love a sale, deal or discount? Here are some websites where you can find stuff for less and tips on how to get a deal.
Net-a-Porter is a site that I visit every Wednesday not for their clothes, shoes, accessories or handbags (Christian Louboutins and Prada dresses are not in my budget) but for their weekly online magazine. Well net-a-porter has launched The Outnet, a designer outlet, where shoppers can purchase designer labels such as Stella McCartney, Chloe, 3.1 Phillip Lim and Oscar de la Renta for a fraction of the original price. At the end of each month The Outnet hosts themed designer sales where prices are greatly slashed. The catch? These sales run for a very limited amount of time.
The Editor’s Closet is another site where you can find designer clothes, watches, sunglasses, shoes and the like for up to 80% off. The catch? You need to be referred by a friend (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) to be able to join immediately however if you go here and fill out this form you’ll be given membership in a relatively short period of time.
A few weeks ago I took up a search for a wallet. I lost my wallet a few weeks back so I desperately had to replace it (I was using one of my Moleskine notebooks as a replacement). In my search I stumbled upon Overstock.com. You name it they’ve got it and in every price range. Bedding? Check. Luggage? Check. Jewelry, shoes, clothes? Check.
In the past when it came to sales I was always a day late and a dollar short. Then I realized the key to finding out about all kinds of sales – advanced sales, friend and family sales, regular sales – before they happened. All you have to do to be first in line the next time Holt Renfrew or Aldo’s or Old Navy has a sale is to sign-up for their email lists. A few weeks ago, while looking for that ever elusive wallet I found one. A black Marc by Marc Jacobs wallet…for $158US 😦 Then a few days later Holt Renfrew AND Shop Bop sent me 25% off of all of their stock. It pays to play.
Another source that I find very useful for getting the heads up on sales and discounts are magazines. As a fashion fanatic I subscribe to and read quite a few magazines. In those magazines, especially LouLou are coupons, coupon codes and advanced notice for fashion events, exclusive shopping events and sales.
