Beauty | Manicure Monday (on a Tuesday): Cheeky Monkey Cosmetics nail polish (A Review)

When it comes to nail polish I’m a bit of a product junkie; I just love discovering and trying out new brands.  Last week, I was introduced to Cheeky Monkey Cosmetics and I couldn’t wait to get home to do some swatches.

Cheeky Monkey is a Canadian-based cosmetics brand that boasts over 40 non-toxic, 3-free nail polishes (no DBP, formaldehyde or toluene is added). Each nail polish has a “cheeky” name, comes with a cute little fortune card and a corresponding cocktail recipe. I received three polishes – Booty Call, Spank Me and U Never Go Back – in three different nail polish finishes.

Booty Call is a deep eggplant metallic polish with a slight shimmer. The polish is a good two-coater (one if you apply it liberally) with low-shine.

Spank Me is a fun coral creme polish which left me thinking of summer. This is a two-coater polish with a smooth finish that is perfect for nail art or applying a quick slick of nail polish.

U Never Go Back is a jet black jelly polish. Since this polish is a jelly it requires three coats to achieve opacity and has great shine. I can’t wait to use this polish for a monochrome ombré.

Cheeky Monkey Cosmetics nail polish retail for $15. Visit CheekyMonkeyCosmetics.com to purchase nail polishes or to find a retailer near you.

VERDICT: The nail polishes didn’t require a ridiculous amount of coats to achieve opacity, the polishes dried quite quickly and the brushes were okay. The metallic formula wasn’t very shiny, however, that can be easily fixed with a high-shine top coat. The lids of the polish are lightly rubberized so they are easy to open even with wet nails. I really liked the three Cheeky Monkey nail polishes that I tried and would definitely purchase more polishes (especially the jelly finish).

Hi Septembre, I love their “Make Me Moist” cuticle oil. Have you tried it? I was eyeballing the coral in the summer. This post makes me want it now. Too bright for fall, you think?
