Before Tommy Ton, Scott Schuman and Yvan Rodic whipped out their cameras and started snapping pictures of fashionable people on the streets there was New York Times photographer and columnist behind “On The Street” Bill Cunningham. A new film, called Bill Cunningham New York, sets to document the ever elusive man behind the lens who has spent over thirty years photographing candid images of the stylish people on the streets of New York.

The original street style photographer Bill Cunningham at work.
The beauty of Bill Cunningham is the genuine love for fashion, beauty and originality that you feel in his work and in his voice. As an added bonus we not only get to hear Cunningham speak about his life and his art but we also get to hear fashion denizens like Anna Wintour and the inimitable Iris Apfel weigh in on the man, the myth and the lensman, Bill Cunningham.
The film will open in theatres in New York on March 16. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait long for the film to screen in Canada.
